Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole

I know it's been a long time since I've posted anything.  The past couple years have been a real struggle in our family.  Depression, anxiety, loss, and lack of commitment and trust have racked the very foundations of our marriage.  It has become so apparent to us that Satan is very real, and very intent on tearing families apart.  In the past I have loved recording our history, whether it is through blogging, taking pictures, or posting on social media.  Through these trials it has become more difficult to keep track of all of this, as pain and suffering tend to be more apparent. I don't want to put a smiling front up, when we are clearly not doing okay but I also want to celebrate the good days and good times we are having.  Thus the struggle of not knowing when to post, and not.
The lessons I have personally learned over the last year are innumerable. I have fallen to my knees in desperation more times than I like to remember, but the thing I DO want to remember is that He is always there for me.  Heavenly Father has become a real strength and support to me through these my darkest times and helped me to feel loved, important and strong in times of extreme weakness and sadness.  Because of that close relationship I have also been shown my shortcomings and sins and had the opportunity to utilize the Atonement in my life in a very real way.  I don't want to forget these experiences or things that I am learning!  So I've decided to try to use this blog as a journal in a way, of the spiritual lessons and insights I gain.
Today in Sunday School we were learning about Enos.  His is a very familiar story to me and I was really enjoying the insights others were sharing about his experience in the wilderness.  As I read to  myself Enos 1:8 I had a profound thought.  Enos has just been forgiven by the Lord of all his sins.  He felt his guilt be swept away and asked him, "Lord how is it done?"  Verse 8 states: "And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou has never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh;wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole."
How many times have I read that verse before, and yet today it struck me with such force!
In life there are few urges I have felt stronger than the need to feel whole.  I felt that need when I was in high school, wanting to have friends and feel accepted and included.  I felt that need when I was in the dating game wanting and feeling the need to find someone to marry, to tie myself to eternally and to find true, eternal love. I especially felt that need when yearning for a baby in my empty arms after a miscarriage and years of doctor appointments, tests and failures.  I felt that need when I realized my marriage was in trouble and that my constant and steady husband and I were struggling.  I think that I am not alone in this.  I think that we ALL have the need as humans to feel whole, to fit all of the intricate details of who we are, what we want for ourselves, and what is important to us, into a happy, healthy, whole version of ourselves.  And it is SO hard to do.  At least for me it has been.  I started to think of the other times I'd read that phrase in the scriptures. The same phrase was used many times by the Savior in his time here on earth, most often after he had physically healed someone.  He used it when he healed the woman with the issue of blood, when healing a blind man, and He said it to the leper who was the only one of the ten healed to come back and thank Him.
"Thy faith hath made thee whole."  In this journey Justin and I are going through currently, we are both on missions to find ourselves. To really get to know who we are, how we tick, and really what we want in this life.  As I have spent so much time thinking and reflecting on this subject lately, through scripture study, reading, pondering and counseling I have come realize that I need to be whole. Me. Myself. As much as I love, honor and respect my sweet husband, I am judged in this life separately.  Yes we help each other, yes it is a commandment to cleave unto him and none else, yes I cannot progress fully in His kingdom without a husband in the new and everlasting covenant.  But I myself am responsible for my choices, actions and feelings.  I need to be whole, and healthy on my own before I can expect to have a healthy marriage, or really any relationship.  And I am working on it.  Like I said I have come to rely on my Savior and Heavenly Father so much more in the past couple years, and I cling to my faith which is constantly growing.  Today I feel that I figured out a secret.  That faith that I cling to, that faith that gets me through my dark days, that faith that I have come to rely on, can and will make ME whole.  My Faith in Jesus Christ, my Savior and Redeemer is the ONLY way possible in this carnal, confusing world that I can truly feel whole.
I am so grateful for this insight today.  I know this may seem so simple, but it really spoke to me.  I have tried to come to terms so many times with the fact that I may never have children to call my own in this life, and it has really struck me to my core that I don't know how to be okay with that.  It is such a righteous desire, and a commandment, yet I know that not everyone realizes that journey here in mortality.  As I have fought my depression and fear about this fact I knew that in order to be truly okay in this life, I had to come to terms with it.  Does that mean I have to give up hope, No! Does that mean that I'll ever stop wanting kids, No! But I know that if I lean on my faith in Jesus Christ, that I can be whole with or without kids, with or without friends, with or without a husband. I am so grateful that because of my Savior, I can be whole.
Regardless of the fact that I can be whole without friends, a husband or children I am truly grateful for all my friends, family, husband and all the children I do have in my life.  My life is so blessed. I have so much to be thankful for everyday!

Happy 9th Anniversary!

So we woke on on June 6, 2015 the morning of our ninth anniversary to this view.  Breathtaking.  This is Yellowstone Lake and it was such a pretty clear morning:)  We enjoyed some snuggles before getting up and making breakfast.

Our happy camping faces.  I was blissfully happy this morning:)
We packed up after breakfast and drove to Teton National Park. These pictures were taken at Jackson Lake lodge. It has amazing views of these mountains!!

Justin taking advantage of the panoramic setting on the camera!

This is Justin thinking "it's so bright out here and I'm really trying to get us both and the mountains in the shot while looking cool with my eyes open..."

We decided to hike in Cascade canyon for the day.  We drove to Jenny Lake, made lunch (top ramen noodles) on our camp stove sitting behind our Subaru with our nice camping chairs (very classy cool). Then we took the ferry across Jenny Lake and started hiking from there.  We hiked all the way up the canyon. The weather was great, a little overcast- but that just kept it cool.  Beautiful views all day long!  Happy Anniversary to us!

 Some more wildlife!
The end of the road for us that day, then we turned around and hiked back!

 Inspiration point!!  Pretty inspiring:)
So all along the hike I was telling Justin how soft the moss looked and how I could just sleep on it.  So we took this photo to show how I am a granola flower eating hippie tree hugger at heart ;)

Right before the boat docks on Jenny Lake we ran into a black bear that was cinnamon colored. I've never seen anything like it.  It was red. Like red pine needles red.  He wasn't too big. He looked straight at us for a split second then went over the top of the hill.  No time for photos, but we both got a good look at him. Priceless

I had so much fun on this spur of the moment trip with Justin!  It was great to be able to celebrate our way. Not at a fancy restaurant, but in the way we want to- being in the wilderness and enjoying it in the way we love!  Thanks for 9 years of adventure babe!  Lets have many more to come:)

A Day in Yellowstone

After leaving Camp, we headed into Yellowstone for the day.  We went in from the North and so it took several hours to get there. It was SUPER rainy on the way off and on.  We decided against looking around too much when we got up to Mammoth because we would've been soaked to the bone. We asked them about swimming in the springs, and they said that it was too high at this point of year, so that was sad:( We headed on around the loop, and decided that we should figure out where to camp:/  We stopped at all the first come first serve campgrounds and weren't having much luck, but we kept our sprits up! Here was our first wild life sighting!  Black bear and a cub. I know that it is hard to see, but it was kinda far away:)

We stopped for some pretty views

Elk on the way to Artist's Point

Our Chacos got some miles because of a misunderstanding...Justin wanted to show me Uncle Tom's trail. We saw a sign for it in the parking lot for Artist's point, so we followed the signs and started hiking.  It was awhile before we saw another sign. We then descended the 328 steel steps to see the magnificent view of Lower Falls from that viewpoint. We enjoyed the view and it was marvelous, but after reaching the top, we still needed to hike all the way to Artist's point parking lot:(  It was super fun and beautiful, but a little longer than we had planned.

Seriously one of my favorite pictures of this stud:) It is currently the background on my phone.
Me being sad that we took the wrong trail:)

Justin took this video while driving and was pretty proud of himself:)

We got a campsite in Bridge Bay at about 9pm.  We felt lucky that it was open, and when the lady was getting us the info and assigning it to us, she said "I can't believe this campsite is still open, it's gorgeous and has a great view of the lake!"  It was pitch black outside so we couldn't see much, but ate dinner and crawled into our tent snug as two bugs:)

Camp Loll Anniversary Trip

Here we are all packed up and ready for an adventure in our new ride!
We decided to get a time out the weekend of our 9th wedding anniversary and get an adventure in! Justin asked where I would want to go a week before. I didn't even say anything, I just looked at him and he said "We can go to Camp."  He knows me so well!

We set out in our new ride, a 2011 Subaru Outback! It is pretty much Justin's dream car, and since his car died, we looked into it and found a great deal.  This is the first car we've bought together (after 9 years, I know:) Justin wanted to take it on our trip, but we weren't sure it was going to be here in time, but it was!  Way to go Justin, prayers work!

We stayed Thursday night in Idaho Falls, and then started our trek into Camp (Camp Loll of course) the next morning after breakfast.  We had to stop at this house and take a look around.  The foundation is looking pretty creaky/ nonexistant, so I was feeling pretty brave stepping into the doorway for this picture.  Maybe the "Zombie" from the Cranberries we were listening to helped:)

The Road Home.

Spruce Grove Selfie!
Surprisingly we drove right into camp. We had brought shovels just in case we had to do some digging and were planning on hiking in as it was the first week of June still, but the snow wasn't anywhere on the road. We lucked out! Justin was loving the extra clearance on our car, and it handled so well on the dirt road. I think he was really enjoying the mud puddles that we drove right on through.
We got to Camp at about noon. First we took a walk around to the spruce grove and over to the spring. We just did a once over to check things out.  It felt so good to breathe that
mountain air!  We spotted some pretty wildflowers too!

Spring Beauties!  I ate a few of these and thanked Bowquait:)
Hiked over to Polar Bear Spring and the water level was awesome! We didn't get in I'm sad to say:(

Me in my happy place:)
Can you see the snow on the hill?  One of my favorite views from the campfire bowl.

Then we set up at Yukatat for lunch:)  It was fun and there were a bunch of mosquitos!

Gibson meadows had some gorgeous daisy's to look at!  I've never seen this many in one place:)

Overlook from weather rock on our way out of dodge.
I was so glad that we got to go visit a place we love so much.  Deciding to go work at camp was really hard for me back in 2009.  I wanted to start a family with Justin and had a hard time understanding what the pull was to work all summer up in this beautiful place.  I remember being a little put out that Justin would place working at a Boy Scout Camp over starting a family.  But I trusted him and as we prayed and fasted about it, I knew it was the right decision.  Over the years as I look back I am so glad that we made that decision together, and that I trusted my husband and the Lord.  I now think of how unfair it would've been for me to deny Justin the thing he had been dreaming about for 4 somewhat miserable years in the Marines and two really hard, really long deployments.  And he wasn't putting off starting a family, but helping our family of just the two of us become so much stronger.  We gained a bond by working (sometimes) side by side at Camp Loll that I know we NEVER could have gotten any where else.  I now love those he loves and understand the magic and wonder of spending a summer amongst the tall trees. I now get the feeling of being a part of young boys and girls working together making differences in the lives of their peers and the youth of America.  That first year was the hardest job I've ever had before and since, and taught me a lot about myself and what I am capable of.  In short it prepared me in so many ways for the challenges that God new I had ahead of me.  I'm so thankful for that small piece of wilderness and the large part it takes up in our hearts. :)

Spanish Fork Canyon

So I've been begging Justin to take me backpacking so I could try out my new pack.  As soon as it was great weather, and we had the time off, we went.  We decided to go try out the hot pots in Spanish Fork canyon.  It wasn't too far, (maybe 4-6 miles) in? We got there about dusk, set up our tent and went in to the hot pots.  It was fairly crowded despite the almost freezing temperature.  We probably stayed at the hot pots till 11 or so, and then headed back to our camp.  We ate dinner, (I know, it was late) and headed to bed.  We weren't camped too far off the trail, and were amazed at how many people continued to head in to the hot pots.  Like at least 150-200 people heading IN until like 1:30 in the morning!  Super busy place, but we still had fun.

Our tent on one of our last trips with it!  :(  We got a new one, but we loved this one too!!
We always love eating granola and tang for breakfast!

The next morning we went and checked out the hot pots and waterfalls that we really couldn't see too well in the moonlight the night before.
This is where we spent most of our time that night.

A cool blue bird we were following for a little bit.
Wish there had been room in this hot pot the night before, it was a much more consistent temperature, and just deep enough!

I loved my new pack, and my hubby for taking me on this adventure!  So fun!
